A candidate takes a one hour skills test at an approved centre in, for example, Manila via the Rigtalk platform.
The results are held on a secure server. Reading and listening scores are given by the system, writing and speaking are scored by an experienced, native English speaking assessor, who is able to access Rigtalk from anywhere in the world.
The final score, a mix of manual and automated marking, is returned electronically to the approved centre within 48 hours.

What are the benefits of Rigtalk?
We have developed Rigtalk, an online English language proficiency testing system, specifically to meet the needs of the global energy sector. Rigtalk serves as a ‘screening’ tool to assess if a candidate could work safely - in terms of English language competence - in an immersed English speaking environment.
Importantly, it is the only computerised testing system available in this field with the capability to assess speaking, reading, writing and listening skills within the context of oil and gas. Assessment incorporates authentic industry documentation and "real-life situations”.
Rigtalk Technology
Rigtalk is delivered through an online Learning Management System called EDU and coupled with DIPLOMA, a powerful item authoring system, provides an extremely effective and versatile assessment solution. The technology is powered by leading global IT provider of collaborative software applications to the education industry, WIMBA. It is a highly proven and secure system used by Universities and educational organisations world wide. Technical support is provided by Enterprise Design in Scotland.
Language Standards
All grading is in line with internationally recognised testing criteria CEFR. The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) provides a basis for the mutual recognition of language qualifications, thus facilitating educational and occupational mobility.
